Only God can take those we love from our midst,
To dwell amongst angels in heaven’s bliss.
Only He knows why we are meant to stay,
And have our hearts broken in utter dismay.
Only God knows why some souls are chosen to
leave,
And others are meant to continue to weave.
Only He knows whose job here is left to diminish,
And why some remain until they are finished.
Only God can determine who gets to go home,
And who stays here to roam the world alone.
Only He knows how to heal a mangled heart,
When He steals someone from us and tears us
apart.
Only God can tell us it will be alright.
Our days will get better, and again will be
bright.
Only He can bring us the sun and its splendor,
Dabbing our tear stained faces so tender.
Only God gets to say when we share our last kiss,
When we feel their last touch or see them in
bliss.
Only He gets to decide if it’s their last smile,
Or if a frown shows there is something more to
reconcile.
Only God can determine their last day and
goodbye,
And whether they will laugh or start to cry.
Only He knows what words need to be uttered,
If they’ll speak with a sigh or part with a
stutter.
Only God knows why he took Tom away.
Why his Mary won’t have him to hold one more day.
Only He knows why Tom’s boys won’t have him to
share.
Why He was taken from them and out of their care.
Only God knows why Tom left his mother,
Why his sisters are alone to take care of one
another.
Only He knows why everyone has to stay and
grieve,
Why Tom left us here and why he had to leave.
Only God knows how long it will take,
To forsake the sorrow we feel and mend our heart
from break.
Only He can tell us when we will see Tom again.
In the meantime we know he is still our angel,
our loved one, our friend.
